You Can Call Me Jan Named One of the Best Books of the Year
Anne Elvedal’s gripping psychological thriller You Can Call Me Jan has earned its place on both Adresseavisa’s and NRK’s prestigious lists of the best books of the year.
After careful consideration of several production companies, Anne Elvedal has chosen Monster to develop a TV series based on her critically acclaimed psychological thriller, You Can Call Me Jan.
«Monster is thrilled to have secured the TV rights to Anne Elvedal’s You Can Call Me Jan. It is a rare and exceptionally original thriller that takes the audience on a journey in search of answers—answers that might not be what they seem. Elvedal challenges the audience and leads the protagonist to face their greatest fear. It’s a fate we wouldn’t wish on our worst enemy. The story is solidly constructed, believable, visual, engaging, and innovative—exactly what TV needs in an era where too many projects get lost in the crowd,» says Vegard Steenberg Eriksen, producer at Monster.
Vegard Steenberg Eriksen is one of Norway’s leading TV producers, with nearly two decades of experience. He is the first Norwegian Emmy winner (Mammon, 2017), has broken national records with shows like Himmelblå and Exit, and has received awards such as Gullruten and the Panorama Awards.
You Can Call Me Jan has already garnered significant international acclaim, with sales to Germany, The Netherlands and Denmark:
«A masterfully written thriller that draws you deeper and deeper into the heroine’s dark world. The tension increases with every page; I simply couldn’t stop reading. The author is incredibly talented, she knows exactly which word has which effect. And she has written one of the best plot twists I have ever read.»
– Claudia Winkler, Publisher at Ullstein
«This is a mature masterpiece, written by someone who has studied human behavior for a long time, and should be read by both a crime audience and a literary audience. The thrilling elements in this book will remind people of Jussi Adler-Olsen, while the masterful depiction of guilt, innocence, and despair will remind others of Margaret Atwood.»
– Job Lisman, Publisher at Prometheus
We are excited to follow the series’ development and bring Anne Elvedal’s original and captivating universe to the screen.
